Joanna and Dave 3-6-22

1. Wedding date?

3rd June 2022

2. Wedding venue?

Ceremony at The Square Tower, and reception at Watkins & Faux (both in Portsmouth).

2a. Did your wedding plans change due to covid? If so what changed?

We originally had our wedding booked for 1st May 2021. About 6 months before we made the decision to cancel as we were heading towards more lockdowns. We’re glad we did as we would have only been allowed 15 people at our original wedding date! We used this opportunity to completely change our plans, including location and venues.

3. Wedding photographer & How did you choose your photographer?

We used Peter Lavender, who runs Lavender Studios in Montreal. He’s an award-winning wedding photographer, ranked 3rd overall in Canada. He’s also a good friend of ours, and an incredible photographer!

4. Wedding Flowers & did you choose your dress before your flowers?

The dress was the first thing I chose, back in Dec 2019! We used Dream Day Designs who specialise in faux/silk flowers, and Amanda did an amazing job, both in the bouquets and button holes themselves and was great with communication. She really gave us confidence during the process and kept us fully in the loop about flower decisions.

5. Did you have a colour scheme or theme for your day?

Our colour scheme was ‘Ibiza Sunset’ – so the bridesmaid dresses were turquoise like the Mediterranean Sea, the flowers were all pinks/yellows/oranges for the sunset, and we incorporated some sand colours too.

The Dress

6. Dress Designer?

Justin Alexander

7. Before visiting Creatiques did you have an idea of what style of gown you’d like? If so were you surprised by the gown you did choose?

I wasn’t even sure I wanted a dress at all! I knew I wanted to try some dresses at Creatiques as my friend had such a wonderful experience there. My intention was to try lots of Bridal shops, and lots of dresses, but I only ended up using Creatiques as I found my dress after trying on about 4! I was surprised I went for something with such a big train, but I absolutely loved it, and loved the contemporary white bands around the bottom. Best of all, it had pockets!

8. Overall how was your Creatiques experience?

Absolutely amazing. All the staff are amazing, and Robert was always quick to reply to any queries. Always great to have a chat with Andrew when I popped in too!

9. Highlight of your wedding day?

Other than marrying Dave (of course), my Man of Honour’s speech was just amazing. All the speeches were, but Nathan went the extra mile and did video interviews with a lot of people who are special to me.

10. Did you have any special touches?

Everyone really loved our wedding favours. For the adults, we used Mellow Monday in Southsea to create custom, hand pour candles. We got to choose the scent, and Kimi designed us personalised labels. For the kids we got the babies some books, and the older kids had personalised wedding colouring & puzzle packs from Etsy.

Pastry Corner in Southsea did the most beautiful cake. So good that me and Dave didn’t even get to have any as it all went! They also delivered me and the bridesmaids an amazing breakfast buffet on the morning of the wedding.

Also have to shout out to Kerry, who was my Maid of Honour as well as hair & makeup for the day. She runs Pebble in Southsea. I bought a stunning hair piece last minute from Creatiques which she did something beautiful with on the day!

11. Do you have any advice for bride’s planning their big day?

Just try and soak in every single moment and don’t worry too much about the little details. We spent ages curating candle displays and I can’t even tell you whether the candles were lit on the day, I was too busy dancing and hugging people!

After the ceremony was over, I couldn’t understand why I was so nervous that morning. It’s all people you know and love, and there’s nothing that makes your nerves melt away like seeing your partner at the end of the aisle. I wish we could do it all over again!

12. In hindsight, would you have done anything differently?

Got more sleep the night before!
